# Make your first page

This guide takes one page from empty to published. You need a running NextPress site and an account with the editor, admin or owner role.

## 1. Sign in

1. Open your site's address with `/admin/login` at the end, such as `https://example.com/admin/login`.
2. Enter your username or email and your password.
3. Press **Sign in**.

## 2. Create the page

1. Press **New** at the top of the admin.
2. In **What are you making?**, pick **Page**.
3. In the **New page** dialog, type a **Title**, such as "About us". The hint under it shows the address made from the title.
4. Under **Start from**, keep **Blank**, or pick a pre-designed block to start from a copy of it.
5. Press **Create page**.

The page builder opens. The page is a draft, so visitors cannot see it.

When the page assistant is set up, the dialog also has **Describe your page (optional)**. See [Use the page assistant](/docs/ai/page-assistant).

## 3. Add blocks

1. In the **Blocks** panel on the left, open a group, such as **Basic**.
2. Drag **Heading** onto the canvas, the large area in the middle.
3. Drag **Paragraph** under it.
4. Open **Media** and drag **Image** onto the canvas.
5. Open **Layout** and drag **Columns** onto the canvas, then drag blocks into each column.

The full list is in [Blocks overview](/docs/building-pages/blocks-overview).

## 4. Change a block

1. Click a block on the canvas to select it.
2. In the settings panel on the right, use the **Content** tab for what the block shows, **Style** for how it looks, and **Advanced** for less common options.
3. To type text straight on the canvas, press Enter on a selected block or double-click it. Press Esc when you are done.

## 5. Check each screen size

1. Press the desktop, tablet and phone buttons at the top left of the canvas in turn.
2. Fix anything that looks cramped on the phone width.

Style changes made in the tablet or phone view apply only to that screen size. Changes made in the desktop view apply to every size that has no change of its own.

## 6. Save and preview

1. Press **Save** at the top right.
2. Press **Preview**. The page saves, then opens in a new tab as visitors will see it.

## 7. Publish

1. Press **Publish**. The **Publish Page** dialog opens.
2. Check **Page URL**. It may hold only lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens.
3. Press **Publish** in the dialog.

The top button now reads **Published**. Open the page's address in a private browser window to see it as a visitor does.

## If you make a mistake

- Press **Undo** in the editor, or Ctrl+Z (Command+Z on a Mac). **Redo** is Ctrl+Shift+Z.
- To take a published page off the site, press **Published**, then **Move to Draft**.
