Comments
Turn comments on or off, decide whether they need approval, and approve, edit, mark or delete them in the Comments screen.
On this page
Visitors comment on published blog posts. Comments are not taken on pages. NextPress sends no email about new comments, so check the Comments screen.
By default, comments are on, and each new comment waits for approval before it shows.
Choose the site's comment rules
- Open Settings in the sidebar, then the Discussion tab.
- Set the switches:
- Allow comments: visitors can comment on this site's posts.
- Review comments first: new comments show only after someone approves them.
- Let visitors create an account: visitors can sign up at
/admin/register. They get the subscriber role. This switch is off by default.
- Press Save Changes.
A single post can also close its own comments. Visitors then see "Comments are closed on this post."
How visitors comment
The Post Comments block shows approved comments and a Leave a Comment form with Name, Email and the comment. Signed-in people comment under their account name.
- A visitor without an account must give a name. The email is optional and only your team sees it.
- A comment can be up to 10,000 characters.
- One address can send up to 5 comments a minute. After that, the visitor sees "You are commenting very fast. Wait a minute and try again."
- While Review comments first is on, the visitor sees "Thanks! Your comment will show once it is approved."
In the block's settings you can choose Show comment form, Show comment count, Allow replies and Comments per page.
Moderate comments
You need the editor, admin or owner role.
- Open Comments in the sidebar, under Content.
- Use the status list to show All Comments, Approved, Pending, Spam or Trash.
- On a comment, use:
- Approve Comment: shows a pending comment on the site.
- Edit Comment: change the name, email, text or status, including moving it to Trash.
- Mark as Spam: hides the comment.
- Delete Comment: removes it for good.
Only approved comments appear on the site.
Keep comments under control
- Leave Review comments first on until you know your audience.
- Use Mark as Spam or Trash when unsure. Delete Comment cannot be undone.
