On this page
This guide takes one page from empty to published. You need a running NextPress site and an account with the editor, admin or owner role.
1. Sign in
- Open your site's address with
/admin/loginat the end, such ashttps://example.com/admin/login. - Enter your username or email and your password.
- Press Sign in.
2. Create the page
- Press New at the top of the admin.
- In What are you making?, pick Page.
- In the New page dialog, type a Title, such as "About us". The hint under it shows the address made from the title.
- Under Start from, keep Blank, or pick a pre-designed block to start from a copy of it.
- Press Create page.
The page builder opens. The page is a draft, so visitors cannot see it.
When the page assistant is set up, the dialog also has Describe your page (optional). See Use the page assistant.
3. Add blocks
- In the Blocks panel on the left, open a group, such as Basic.
- Drag Heading onto the canvas, the large area in the middle.
- Drag Paragraph under it.
- Open Media and drag Image onto the canvas.
- Open Layout and drag Columns onto the canvas, then drag blocks into each column.
The full list is in Blocks overview.
4. Change a block
- Click a block on the canvas to select it.
- In the settings panel on the right, use the Content tab for what the block shows, Style for how it looks, and Advanced for less common options.
- To type text straight on the canvas, press Enter on a selected block or double-click it. Press Esc when you are done.
5. Check each screen size
- Press the desktop, tablet and phone buttons at the top left of the canvas in turn.
- Fix anything that looks cramped on the phone width.
Style changes made in the tablet or phone view apply only to that screen size. Changes made in the desktop view apply to every size that has no change of its own.
6. Save and preview
- Press Save at the top right.
- Press Preview. The page saves, then opens in a new tab as visitors will see it.
7. Publish
- Press Publish. The Publish Page dialog opens.
- Check Page URL. It may hold only lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens.
- Press Publish in the dialog.
The top button now reads Published. Open the page's address in a private browser window to see it as a visitor does.
If you make a mistake
- Press Undo in the editor, or Ctrl+Z (Command+Z on a Mac). Redo is Ctrl+Shift+Z.
